Party Planning: Meschianza 1778
Join us at the Museum as we commemorate the “Meschianza” (Italian for “medley”) of May 1778 with a living history program about the preparation of this elaborate medieval pageant. In 1778, the departing British Army and its supporters planned a huge party complete with floating barges, jousting, gaudy costumes, and candlelit banquet halls. Living history interpreters at the Museum will be making costumes, designing invitations, and discussing where they can get enough candles and mirrors for the impending festivities. You can design your own Meschianza invitation and decide if you would have partied with the British.
