Revolutionize Date Night with a Love Letter-Themed Evening During “History After Hours”

Think romance is history? So does the Museum of the American Revolution. On Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 5 – 8 p.m., the Museum will host a love letter-themed evening that will explore the stories of Revolutionaries who wrote romantic letters, went on dates, and carved “busks” for their sweethearts to wear close to their hearts. Enjoy live music from a strolling violinist and have an artist capture your likeness in a silhouette to take home.

Celebrate George Washingtons Birthday this Presidents Day Weekend at the Museum of the American Revolution

Presidents Day was originally established in 1879 to commemorate the birthday of George Washington, our nation’s first president, and later expanded to include all who have held our nation’s highest office. This year, the Museum of the American Revolution will celebrate Presidents Day weekend, Saturday, Feb. 17 – Monday, Feb. 19, with family-friendly festivities and the final chance to see the Museum’s limited-run special exhibit Among His Troops: Washington’s War Tent in a Newly Discovered Watercolor.

Museum Renames Patriots Gallery as Eagles Gallery Through Super Bowl Sunday

Philadelphia has loved a good underdog story ever since the Continental Army took on the British Empire during the Revolutionary War (spoiler alert: they won). On Thursday, Jan. 25, the Museum of the American Revolution will temporarily rename its first-floor Patriots Gallery as “Eagles Gallery” through Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4, in a show of support for the Museum’s hometown team. Visitors are also encouraged to wear Eagles apparel to receive $2 off admission to the Museum through Feb. 4 (walk-up only).

The Museum of the American Revolution today announced the hiring of Elizabeth A. Grant as Director of Education. Grant brings to the Museum more than a decade of experience in cultural and heritage education, successfully leading teams in developing and delivering active learning programs to engage diverse audiences, including children, young people, students, and lifelong learners.

History After Hours Series Returns to Museum of the American Revolution

The Museum of the American Revolution’s History After Hours series will return on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, with extended evening hours from 5 – 8 p.m. on one evening of each month. The events feature special themed programs, happy hour food and drink specials, games and trivia, and full access to the Museum’s exhibits. Tickets for History After Hours are $10 for adults and can be purchased online in advance here or at the door.

Newly Discovered Watercolor Featuring Washington’s War Tent Anchors Limited-Run Exhibit “Among His Troops,” Jan. 13 – Feb. 19

On Jan. 13, the Museum of the American Revolution will unveil a newly discovered watercolor painting from the Revolutionary War as the centerpiece of a limited-run exhibit from Jan. 13 – Feb. 19, 2018. The 235-year-old, seven-foot panoramic painting depicts the Continental Army’s 1782 encampment at Verplanck’s Point in New York’s Hudson Valley. It includes the only known depiction of General George Washington’s headquarters tent in the field – the very tent that is dramatically presented at the Museum.
